Wasini Island lies off the southern Indian Ocean coast of Kenya next to Shimoni. It is approximately 6 km long and 1 km across. The Island is blasted by the winds of the southern monsoon which bring the long rains, and the vigour of the Kaz Kazi, the north east trade winds. The island does not have another natural source of fresh water and this resource is largely under-utilised.
Atins is a small fishing village on the coast of Maranhão it is one of the last relatively unspoiled villages along the North-East coast of Brazil. There are approximately 2,000 inhabitants including close neighbouring settlements of Santo Inácio I, Santo Inácio II, Ponta do mangue and Canto Do Atins. Nutrition and diet is an issue among the population. The main diet of manioc and fish is actually nutrient deficient. This affects the ability of children to learn and study.
